Lepidopterophobia
Or, Butterflies Are Evil
Yep, it's true. I'm terrified of butterflies. So is Nicole Kidman. Since many of you may be laughing right now, in the spirit of poking back at you in fun, I'm going to list all the proof I know of on this page that butterflies are evil.
On Modern Family, Manny is scared of butterflies.
On Malcolm in the Middle, Reese raises some caterpillars to butterflies, then goes crazy and flees in terror after they won't stop fluttering around him.
In the PBS kids' show Dragon Tales, Ord the dragon is afraid of butterfrogs, a hybrid butterfly-frog.
In Simpsons Episode MG04, Maggie chases a butterfly out the window and falls off the roof. In Episode 3F06, she does it again.
In Simpsons Episode BABF11, Homer goes to Africa as a missionary to flee PBS after he can't pay them money he pledged. Upon arrival, a butterfly lands on his finger, burrows under his skin, and crawls into his brain. Also, according to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant website (linked above):
Another interesting creature featured on this episode, the "brain parasite butterfly", joins the increasingly long list of mythical insects dreamed up by the writers, but actually isn't as farfetched as one might think. In Southeast Asia, moths of the species _Calpe eustrigata_ have powerful proboscises that they use to puncture the flesh of mammals and drink the blood! They can feed for up to an hour on larger creatures, and their bites are supposed to be extremely painful. So, the concept of butterflies feeding under human flesh actually exists.
Shudder!
Gotta love those Simpsons writers - they must be lepidopterophobic too! In Episode 2F32, Bart says if he's ever reincarnated, he wants to be a butterfly, because no one ever suspects the butterfly.
