McAfee Site Advisor is broken

I think McAfee Site Advisor is “broken” in how they rate sites, and because of that, they could be scaring business away from legitimate sites.

For example, I go to one web store that is rated red, because it links to a site that has an adware download. (Although I’ve never seen this link anywhere on the site - I don’t know where Site Advisor picked up the link.) The store itself is fine and reputable… I’ve ordered from them. I am worried that people who’ve had Site Advisor installed by family or friends will see that red rating and run, not bothering to check the site details. When I e-mailed McAfee about this, they sent a reply that basically said, “We will continue to rate sites that link to red sites as red.”

Yet, another site, Softpedia, is rated yellow. Now, Softpedia provides many green downloads (no adware/spyware), but they actually do have some red downloads - yet they are rated yellow.

This makes no sense - a site that links to an adware site is marked red, even though the site itself is fine, yet a site that actually supplies adware downloads is marked yellow. Again, what about the users who don’t bother to read the site details at McAfee and are scared away from purchasing there?
