How not to comment
Lorelle on Wordpress is a great blog (part of the 9rules network) about blogging, and I wholeheartedly agree with her post, How Not to Comment on Comments. Before I show you her points, I’d like to add my own – be sure you know the topic of the blog you’re commenting on.
For example, the other day I got a comment on this Burger King customer service post. The commenter said, “I was in your Location X store and got crappy service, I’d like something done about it.” First, there’s nothing on my blog that says I work for BK, and even if I did, I couldn’t do anything about her situation – she’d need to call corporate.
Then, I got a comment on this pizza post – I don’t run a pizza shack, but a lady commented and said she would like to submit some ways to market my pizza, could I please tell her how she should submit this to my site. People, use your noggins and realize that just because we blog about a place, doesn’t mean we work with it.
So here’s Lorelle’s major points, and click over using the above link to read more about them.
1. Say Something Intelligent – write like you passed the 8th grade!
2. Ask Something Intelligent – this relates to what I said above
3. Write Something Intelligent -if u write like an idiut & u cant spell or use propr grammr, you look stupid and not intelligent, funny, or cute. Or as Lorelle puts it, “If you want an intelligent response to your comment, write intelligently. Use complete sentences.” Oh, and by the way, blogs are public places – don’t publish your private details.
4. Add to the Conversation – try to stay on topic and share your knowledge
5. Your Comment is a Mini Resume – your comments can encourage people to visit your website, if they’re intelligent, and if not… well, they can discourage visits just as easily.
Most of her post can be summed up in two words: Comment intelligently.

You summed it up perfectly. Always glad to help, and thanks for spreading the word. I’m so tired of getting stupid comments from people I know are smarter than that…well, at least I think so.
